Journalistic Preconceptions About The Sex Business

I saw a headline in the Metro the other day that summarised most of the misunderstandings that the media and people not involved in the sex industry have about the clients of escorts. The headline was “Why do men in their 20s pay for sex?” Wow. Great journalism there. So let us break it down a little. Apart from the fact that the journalist really, really needed some copy, especially something that would be a little click bait to keep their editors happy, what else is pre supposed in the article? That men in their twenties can get laid whenever they want. No. That men in their twenties have somewhere to get laid. Not in the major cities of the world they don´t, not with rents and property prices as high as they are. That men in their twenties can get laid with the women that they want. No. A friend of mine has a real thing for Selma Hayek, but I do not think it is worth his while holding out. That men in their twenties can get girls to do whatever it is. No – most girls are not necessarily going to do the kind of things that most professional escorts regard as run of the mill. Let alone help out if their guy is secretly into being dominated, beaten or has some other kind of fetish.

And what else is implied in the article? That only old, ugly, socially impaired men pay for sex. Just not true. Most escorts tell me that many of the men they meet as clients are actually better than the
escort girl pulling down leopard print panties
guys they meet in bars or from Tinder. You know what kind of man pays for sex? One who has enough money to pay for sex. And a pulse. Sex workers in Madrid will be as likely to meet a young good looking guy as they will be to meet a fat unattractive smelly guy. Men want sex. And they can not necessarily get the kind of sex that they want, with the kind of women they want, when they want, where they want. Unless they pay for it. If they could, then sex workers would be out of business.

What did the article conclude? From a sample of (I suspect) about five men, that the reasons men see prostitutes are: Because they are unattractive and can not get sex. Because they have no personality and can not get sex. Because they are kinky and their girl friend will not supply the kink – or more likely because the guys have not been open about their kink. Because they share a flat and do not have the privacy to have sex – what, they all sleep in the same room? Oh Lord, I am so tired of the press asking everyone except professional escorts about professional escorts. Maybe I ought to ask the general public about who reads newspapers and what it is like to be a journalist!
